Y Block Oil Pump Priming

when i get oil pump off i'll see if it's hex drive.

if so, an oil priming shaft for later Fords or

other makes will probably work.

last motor i primed i went to Sear's and

bought the 1/2" drill motor with the extra handle on it.

it just did the job!:)

another tip is to put white grease on

the camshaft.

vaseline or bearing grease will slow down

oiling until it melts real good.

instead of using priming shaft cranking

engine with plugs out and valve covers off

will probably be good enough.

when oil gets up to rocker shafts engine is primed

and ready to start!:)

Maybe mineral oil would be a nice lubricant for cam breakin.

could be, i'm not 100% sure what that is.

another thing to do is wipe 30 wt oil and

white grease on bearings during assembly.

it'll wash out once you get oil pressure.

oil priming is best route because engine

has zero time bearings running without oil.

Tri-Metal bearings will take a little scuffing

at break in but better to have them oiled

from the get-go.
