In the NOS and NORS parts I bought a couple of years ago I have 3 sets of Wolverine hudraulic lifters for FE Ford's. Were these good quality back in the day or borderline junk? Thanks Rod
I used to have some Wolverine brand pushrods. In the 50s and 60s there wasnt such a thing as Chinese junk like we have now. There were good parts manufacturers that gradually merged or were strong armed out of business by bigger fish.

Hi Rod, those were excellent pieces made by the original Johnson tappet mfr. There were never any issues using them.
Same tappets made by "Hylift-Johnson" today (owned by Topline Automotive Engineering since 2004), the old Johnson company, and still USA made to the best of my knowledge. They are located in Muskegon, Mi.
Thanks, Gary in N.Y.
P.S. The only recommendation I would make if they have been "lying" around is to open a couple up and make sure no moisture has gotten inside. If so, they can be disassembled and cleaned. Should be fine. I still have the brand in stock and still sell them.
More info about Wolverine here in post #1:http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/who-made-your-camshaft-195248.html We used to buy their lifters in bulk trays of 144 at a big discount and pair them with different cams for a promotional leader back in the 70's,never had any come backs with their products, still have a decal and embroidered Wolverine patch from "back in the day".
Very interesting information Jeff. Thanks. Oil seems to be the answer when the question gets to "how do I break in a new cam"? Research oil before you start a new engine.
Thanks guys, will get them listed this weekend. I dislike putting substandard parts back into circulation, so always question the quality of brands I am not familure with. Would just about trade 2 for one for NORS Johnson lifters for a flathead, but will likely have to sell these and buy what I want as trades seldom work out for me. Rod
