wishbone..To split or not to split

That is the question. My 39 1/2 ton radius ball looks more like a pebble and like most farm trucks, the upper ball support is pushed upward, rotted and a few rivets hold it to the X. I know about the splitting kits but i would like to keep the front triangle complete and not mess with bending the spring shakle supports. Thinking of takeing a rad. ball cover and fabing a new upper support to my X. Someone has to have a repair Idea to keep the wishbone complete. Thanks!

Not exactly the same vehicle, but, I repaired a worn and damaged upper ball housing by installing a good lower cap to replace the worn upper housing. In other words, you would need two pieces of "good condition" lower caps for this suggested repair.

I have seen what people do to make a new k member, exactly what you said, take a cover, draw line around it, cut out the old and weld in the new cover-inverted... hard to do in a complete car... There is a repair for the same situation in a
Model T, a bolt in, might have seen it in Mac's- or another Model T catalog... Karl

If you're thinking about a non -stock trans i.e. overdrive,T5, etc. ; the split wish bone is an avantage and not that hard to do if body is off the frame. jmo

Thanks for the input guys. I have the orig cap and C&G has them on page 53. I have a pretty good pattern from what's left of the old support. Maybe I'll patten my new design
