What kind of paint is on a car

Is there any easy way to figure out if an old car was recently repainted with lacquer, enamel or urethane?

If it was done recently, its safe to say it isn't lacquer. They stopped making lacquer years ago. Most people use base coat/ clearcoat or urethane Depending on the type of finish you want. Quick way to tell if its base/ clear is to take apiece of sandpaper, scuff and area. If the dust on the sandpaper is white, its clearcoat. If the dust is the color of the paint, its single stage urethane or an enamel.
