VIN Location on 1953 F100

A friend of mine has purchased a F 100 from out of state and needs to have the State Police verify the VIN on the title with the VIN that is stamped on the frame (not the data plate in the glove box door.) I had a 1955 F100 and the VIN was on the top of the right frame rail in the engine compartment. His '53 does not appear to have the number there after removing the inner fender for access. Before he tears down the entire truck, does anyone out there know where to find the VIN on the frame of this truck? TIA

Engine compartment, top of the frame rail, light stampings (use a light on an angle after using fine emery paper or fine steel wool to remove the rust and crud), etc.. Ford assembly plants had a habit of moving it around. Most are on the passenger side, but you'll find them from time to time on the driver's side.

You might be able to glean some info from this thread on a truck forum

It should be on top of the right frame rail near the front crossmember. That's where it is on the F-1's. I haven't looked at a F-100 frame in a long time, but if there are crossbraces that angle from the right rail to the front crossmember you should also check the top of that brace.

On our '53 F-100 Panel Truck the VIN is on the data plate on the inside of the glove box door. I recently repainted the frame rails from the cowl forward and did not see and VIN numbers stamped into the frame although I’m sure it’s got to be there somewhere.

My friend found the VIN on his 1953 F 100, it was on the front crossmember under the radiator. Apparantly Ford assembly plants used 3 or 4 locations at that time. Thanks all who replied.
