I need to install a new valve cover gasket. Do I need to put any gasket sealer on or just bolt it up with the gasket. And what brand or kind of sealer if needed. The gasket is a cork one from Snyders. Thanks

I like permatex aviation sealer. Whether or not you use this or any other type is a personal preference. I just want to reduce the possibility of leaks since I don't plan to pull things apart for awhile!

Any type of gasket sealer should work as there is no pressure involved just snug them all down equally and both surfaces are clean. Don't forget the one's that hide under the manifold.

I hold it in place with some hi tack or weather strip adhedive. I put them on dry no sealer at all. Whatever you do don't over torque

I guess I'm lazy. I quit using gaskets on valve covers, front covers, oil pans, and water in/outs a long time ago. Just modern gasket eliminator compounds. Not fine-point correct, but drip free and way easier to assemble without fighting a separate gasket.

I use Permatex #2 with a heavy PAPER gasket. I don't use the cork gaskets any more due to leakage and crushing problems. I also use Permatex #2 on oil pan, water pump and other gaskets. I have had this tube for about 20 years now and I assume it's still called #2.
