Transmission CASES

Are all Model A Ford transmission cases the same or did they change from 28-31? Just wondering if the AR Multi Disk clutch cars had a special one?:)

4 different variations I can think of right off the top of my head. The very early case had a larger hole for the reverse idler collar, along with no holes for a front bearing retainer. Next the regular sized hole for the reverse idler shaft. Next progression was holes for the front bearing retainer bolts were added. The next change was a groove for the use of a locking ring in the front and rear bearings. I am thinking there was another change at some point, but can not remember what it was. I beleive Jim Mason's website has the changes pictured. Rod

I believe there were two cases use on model A's that are interchangeable. The multi-disc system used for early 28's used the early style case. The only difference I know of between the earlier style cases (28 through part of 1929) is the bosses for the ball bearings on the input and output shafts were machined with a lip for the bearing stops in the early style cases and the later style used snap rings for the bearing stops. Both cases look the same from the outside.

Very interesting Vince, and a super nice find. Maybe someday a shaft for it will surface. Rod

I also have a N.O.S. transmission case 46-7006. I acquired it many years ago in a buyout of parts from a Ford dealer. If anyone wants it I am open to offers.
