Tire storage

I bought a set of Firestone's off craigslist and its going to be along time before I use them. should I store them flat? there still in the shipping bags Or does it make any difference as long as I keep them dry and out of the sun. These are new tires and tubes. 21" 440/450.

I don't think it makes any difference regarding the position of the tires while they are in storage.

I would keep them dry and under cover.

Dennis...I think there was something about the tubes being folded and/or no air in the tube. I would pull them out and put some air in them and bag them. Dudley

Also, don't store them near electric motors, as motors create ozone (bad for rubber).

Bagging them is your best defense.

Maybe I should place the tubes in the tires and air them up to keep the mice and spiders out. I keep stacking parts up around here I cant pass up a bargain

That's a good idea and that's how I've stored mine for years. Inner tubes like to crack at folds, so it's best to keep them inflated, and they take up no room if tucked inside the tires.

tom is most always correct . i stored mine dry , dark , cool , in bags , tubes aired in tires . important to be cool & dry & dark ....................... steve
