Time for a new pan gasket?

I've noticed a larger than normal leak lately. Upon investigation of a cause I came across this:

Does someone know what causes this so that it won't happen again?

Looks like the pan bolts were over tightened. I snug em up and then give em just a tweek more.

Too much torque on the pan bolts. The gasket is crushed.
