The Patent Data Plate part number...

Steve,

I don't really have any idea as to the answer. It's a great question. My response is just speculation, but I would think that the Patent Data Plate would not be an item available through service. Just applying my common sense to this, it seems there would be concerns by Ford that the data plate could/would be applied to some non-Ford parts if the data plate were made available to the general public.
Just a thought to a very interesting question.

I'm pretty well certain it was not serviced, but that doesn't mean it did not have a part number for control within Ford. Some parts were unlisted because they only came with an assembly...look up your main generator shell! There were many parts in Ford history that only came pressed or welded to something else, and I am sure there were numbers to control everything, probably even stuff like individual springs from the seat spring and the needle for the amneter, somewhere in the system.
With many unlisted parts you could make a flying guess from gaps in the catalog and probably find the archival drawings and change orders with some work, but it would be hard to guess even what group the patent plate might have lived in!

As an aside on this topic, the Ford Canada data plate [ only current 1928] had 'Made In USA' printed on the back!
Wonder why Canada stopped using them after 1928? Maybe all the patents were covered from Detroit.
