The Long way of doing things

I've had an intermittent miss in the coupe for the last few weeks . Seemed to be only on accleration and not at idle which is fine.

Firstly I suspected bad gas as the car had been sitting for a while So 1. Change gas => no improvement. Then I thought crud in the carb so 2. I cleaned the carb out removing some crud and while I was there checked the float level (which was slightly off) => No improvement so 3. Checked the plug gap and reset the gaps at 0.035 (was 0.038) plugs look ok but one was slightly loose=> No improvement . Hmm what now ? Inlet manifold leak and yes there was so 4. Manifolds off and not quite straight => machined flat and back on with new copper gaskets => No leak now but you guessed it still a miss. Right 5. points rotor gap and new condensor which all looked ok but when I timed it it was way to advanced so 6. I reset the timing and the miss is gone . Not only does this demonstrate how not to fix something but also how forgiving an A can be as all the faults I found up to the timing had probably no or little effect on the car -I did have fun fixing them however :)
