Temperature Sending Unit Question

Following a post by Tubman when he dissasembled a one post sending unit, I did take apart the 2 pole sending unit. Below are the photos of what's inside.

There is a thin piece of clear celluloid that acts as an insulator between the 2 interior spring clips that feed voltage to each of the 2 poles. Inside, at the bottom of the brass tube there is also a metal contact. Not sure what that does.

There is also a tiny slotted screw at the tip of the spring arm that is easily adjustable. I think that sets the temp. at which the points open.

I used JB WELD to seal and hold the top on but, took it apart again to take these photos. I need to try it in a pan of boiling water to see what temp. opens the points.

It sure would be great if these units could be rebuilt as they are expensive. Perhaps a Fordbarner can make that happen. The staple remover is used only to support the unit for picture taking.

Third Generation sells good reproductions of the switch and the sender for under $50. And currently has a quantity of NORS switches for under $40.
