Suspension bushings

I have seen the two threads concerning bushing, but need a little more help...

I am starting a rebuild of two '55 Birds and the suspension must be redone on both. Back in the day, late '60s, I put about 125,000 miles on a '55 and remember the mushy suspension (which was new at the time). I was thinking that stiffer shocks, poly bushings and a heavier anti-sway bar might help things.

First, what do you think about that plan.

Second, some advice on where to get poly bushings and HOW. I have looked at Energy Suspension and they do not seem to have kits etc for the '55 Birds.

Merry Christmas,

Kent

in your search box type rock auto, when the pages come up find the one that says all the parts you will ever need, click it then fill in the info, i was just there and they list a lot of bushings for the 55 t bird, its a good source for a lot of old car parts, and cheap to

I would recomend stock A arm bushings, heavy duty shocks, and a huge anti sway bar in the new bushings. The result will be a car that rides well and handles better than anyone will believe. My front sway bar came from Thunderbirdssouthwest. While its apart, hang on a pair of Granada spindles and disc brakes.

I could not agree with Ole Don more. IMO poly bushings make the car ride too harsh. Use the stock ones, heavy duty sway bar and shocks. I like KYB Gas-A-Just shocks. They even made my Ranchwagon handle... With the Granada Spindles and Discs you can't go wrong.

You can get the polyurethane bushings from this source:http://www.y-blocksforever.com/forums/Topic1723-3-1.aspx?Highlight=frame+bushings contact member "Moonshadow" actually Energy Suspension does have the sway bar bushings and links in their universal section,it shows how to measure for them there I used them on my '54 Ford which shares the same suspension with your T-Bird.I bought those at O'Reillys and they were less $$ than the stock rubber units and they have zert fittings to lube them. The KYB shocks will make a big difference and the coil springs from a Ford Aerostar will lower the front about 2" and will improve ride and handling big time(best bang for the buck),about $70 at O'Reillys part# MOOG CC850.
