Sump taps

I am presently working on a Model T engine and transmission. First trip through one of these for me.

Can anyone tell me what these taps are for ?

Also is there a tech resource available on this forum or elsewhere that explains the workings of the T engine and transmission?

Those petcocks are used to check oil level for engine and transmission which share the same sump. Keep oil level between upper and lower petcock.

That makes sense now. I looked all over for a dip stick but none to be found.

The proper term for those is "pet****".
