Trying to fix a manifold leak and put on a new gasket. It turns out that the manifold stud nearest the firewall is stripped. I was thinking a helicoil might not hold if it's torques to spec.
Anyone else run into this who can recommend a fix?
I've used helicoil for head studs. Don't see any problem using at manifold, other than you tried to much torque. If the exhaust and intake have been surfaced together, high torque is not required.

I hadn't gotten around to trying to torque them, I was just tightening them down with a box wrench and found that one was spinning. Actually, I suspect it was stripped when the manifold was last put on--with bolts and four washers per hole instead of studs, washers and nuts.
Trying to get the bolts out was an adventure, too. The front was so tight that I had to soak in ATF for a day and even then I almost pulled the car across the garage trying to break it loose. Sigh. You have to wonder what (if?) some people are thinking...
Anyway, I'm off to search for the correct helicoil kit this afternoon.
