steering

This has probably been asked before. Has any member converted their steering to power on a 54 with a 239 using a borgeson steering box and pump? If so what issue should I be aware of?

Go to the “off topic” section of the HAMB and into the 52-59 ford user group. Ryan, who also owns this site, salvaged that when the main board user groups shut down. There’s almost nothing you can think of for these fords someone hasn’t already tried. It’s worth joining over there if you’re not a member. Bit difficult to search sometimes, but most sites are. Here’s the link.

If you have a manual transmission, the original clutch equalizer bar won't fit. If you have an automatic, you will have to do some modification on the shift linkage.
I have one in a '56, with '57 and later exhaust manifolds. There was a clearance issue between the left manifold and the steering box, shimming the box at the lower boss helped, but I wasn't satisfied. I ended up swapping the left manifold for one from a '57 T-bird. The outlet is farther back and gave me good clearance around the p/s box. However, I had to modify the floor pan because the longer manifold hit it.

If I had to do it again, I would use my original box and use an electric assist on the column

Craig, oh my gosh. Thanks for the info. I have a 57 Fairlane 500, but this info is good to know.
