Starter removal on a 55- HELP

OK, it seems as if I will have to lift the motor up to be able to get the starter out. How to do that is this posts subject.
Lifting it with a cherry picker puts the legs all in the way, under the car. Plus, I only want to lift on the front of the motor.
I have a bottle jack that can work fine lifting from underneath, but here is my main question: The steady rest gives a very nice flat area to place the jack, but is it strong enough to allow me to push upward on it, without bending?
I could also push upward on the oil pan rails, but are they strong enough to not crack?
Has anyone done this before and if so, how did you do it?

How high do you think the engine has to go up? Does it hit the mount or the cross-member?

You would have to disconnect the STEADY-REST and watch for he DIST CAP hitting the firewall along with watching the fan, radiator, hoses and linkages.

A bottle jack with a block of wood under the oil pan sump should do it if it has enough travel.
