Split a bones

Got a glass body on a stock model a chassis with float-a-motor mounts and mechanical brakes. Can I split the wishbone and have the plate line up with the motor mount bolts. Also, will the drag link clear this setup? I'm after the rat rod look. Thanks Jerry

Splitting the rear wishbone will introduce undesirable stress and geometry issues, I would leave it stock if you want a "rat rod" look, or go to a four bar set up. The four bar isn't very nostalgic, but it works well and doesn't have the issues that the split wishbone does.

The reason for splitting the wishbone "back in the day" was that removing the "A" motor and replacing it with a V8 took away the wishbone anchoring point. Splitting it was the easiest way around the problem. If you keep the 4 cylinder, there's no need to split the bones.

Why split the wishbone? Pete has summed it up, but if it's a 'rat rod' look you're after, don't go to the HAMB either, they hate that ****.
