Smoke/vapors from the carb when off

Was running the car last night and noticed with the air cleaner off that smoke or vapors were coming from the front carburetor. Its been running rich lately and I must have something leaking to cause this. Assume it might be the needle and seat not closing? maybe too high a float level too... I am running a stock mechanical fuel pump with no fuel regulator. was going to shoot CharlieNY an email but my emails are not working .

depending on what carb your running (94) it could be the power valve, fuel leaking past where the carb is bolted together, float to high, but my best guess is its fuel being boiled out of the float bowl and into the manifold, if you havent plugged the cross over heat passage in the intake manifold i would do it, its there to heat up the carb in cold weather, plug the passages and add a insulation spacer under the carb

Have a feeling that my lack of fuel regulator is the problem, my stock pump must be putting out just enough pressure to over come the needle and seat. Don't have powervalves and Charlie did my rebuilds for me so I know they are right. Still have an old regulator sitting around in the garage, looks like its time to put it back on.....or buy a new one. Holley has a unit that is adjustable from 1 to 4psi, are they any good or are there better units out there?

if you needed a regulator you would know it when the engine was running it would flood out at every stop sign and run like crap on the hiway, check float hight and see if you have an american made needle and seat, if not ken ct can supply you one he posts on here a lot, dont let his gruff replies scare you, hes a ***** cat, lol, and hes the best guy for carb info i know

If their Charlie's rebuilds there right,he uses steel needles as i do,The only thing we differ on is using power valves, He dosent and i do.He will take care of you.Hes one of the best around. ken ct. I AM NOT REFERING TO CHARLIE PRICE IN FL.!!!!!!

Ken ct, Talked to CharlieNY last night, I think the problem was caused by me this summer! Changed the jets several times getting the right combo and each time I put the top on the side of the engine, pushing the floot up towards the needle and seat. Charlie said to measure the distance on the float, pretty sure the level is way to high. Might also be by stock pump that might have some dirt in it. I did notice the first time it started to run bad it was fine going down the road and then when I came to a quick stop it would die. Charlie is great, just wish he lived in my home town! You too Ken Ct! Just are not many guys around that know about our Flatheads, and they are so darn simple!!!!:o
