side window channels install

Would like information on installing the door window side channels. The new channels I got from Vintique have top and bottom hooks that attach to the
side clips. The channels are ridged and need to stretch a least 5-16" to hook over the clip. Is there a helpful tip to set the side window channels?

just thinking here so this is just a maybe

can you straighten the bottom hook and rebend it so the distance is longer,
or
drill a hole in the bottom of the channel 5/16" higher that will accept the hook?

sometimes you just have to be creative.
