short starter nose 302 std shift ????

New Guy Hear !!!!! Hello everyone .....I recently purchased a 302 ford mini hi torque starter ... I installed it only to find the nose of the sterter is 1/2 incn short . the bendex dosn't engauge the flywheel. My engine is 1988 302 roller motor I compared the old starter with the new. the new one is shorter in the nose support by 1/2 inch . Now my question is did ford make a diff starter say after 92/93 or newer. I think I got the wrong starter or something ,,,,Any help to resolve this will be cool .. thanks John

i dont know about 88 but all early small blocks had a different end on the starter for auto,and stnd.
