S.E. Pennsylvania Shop Referrals 39 Steering Column

Tubman--My father shared your sentiment. My father saved the original bumpers. He always liked the 40 bumper and grill guard combo

I popped the bail off and the entire canister slid off. I am not sure where the c -clip is. Any suggestions to next step is greatly appreciated. Thanks

The clip is hiding under the end of the fork thingy. Slide the fork up with an open end wrench so you can see it, the clips are sometimes tight, need a bump from a screw driver, and sometime fall out.

Is the fork you are referring to that silver tab? That moves left to right when turning the headlight switch and stays somewhat centered when in the off position.

Its a 2 prong fork that slides into the switch from the top. Vertical of the 2 prongs is off when you get to reinstalling it. I don't see a silver tab, perhaps one fork is broke off?

The silver tab that moves with the switch is the top fork prong, should be another on the bottom side you aren't seeing. Been a while, but I don't think the fork fits thru the hole you have exposed, which is why the 2 part can needs to come apart also. Can you pull that whole thing off to expose the fork?

I did not pull the can apart. The can slid off together and exposed that top fork/tab. I need to look at the bottom for the other fork. I am not sure if you can see from the underneath of the car.

Doesn't matter if you can see it now, the whole thing needs to be out of the way to deal with the clip. If you can't pull the whole thing out far enough for it to drop out of the way, then the two part can needs a twist, pull it apart, the big half with the wires and switch will fall out of the way, the small half can be put back on the steering box, and the whole fork is exposed.

I have been underneath the car this weekend trying to get the c-clip off. Any secret. Should someone hold the center of the steering to keep the clip from rotating?
