rod bolts

I was looking at the ARP web site and see that there is a different listing for the 239,272,and 292 rod bolts than the 312 bolts. since I am not that familiar with the y-blocks can anyone tell me the difference between them. it may be obvious if I had a set of each to look at , but I don't. any information would be appreciated.----Jim

I cant answer the question. When I built my 312, we used 400 Chev ARP bolts. ARP may make a set to fit easier now.

312's had different rods than the 272/292. The 272/292 had same stroke, different bore. Not sure about the 239.

I'm gonna make a guess and say that if the rod journal was larger on the 312 crank that the bolt needed to be longer.

the rod journal on the 312 is the same as other y blocks.the 312 and the other truck rods cite and c2ae use the same bolts.a little stronger i guess.

It's the length of the bolts that dictates which rod bolt set is used. The EBU rods (272/292) requires the longer ARP 154-6005 bolt set while the ECZ, C1TE, and C2AE rods requires the shorter ARP 154-6004 bolt set. The effective length of the 154-6004 bolts is 1.900" while the effective length of the 154-6005 bolts is 2.125". The longer stroked 312 crankshaft required a connecting rod bolt that was shorter on the top side to facilitate clearing the camshaft.

Ted, thank you for clearing that up. I kind of figured it was a length issue, but did not have any bolts to compare, and the arp web site did not give any specs. you are a wealth of information, thank you for all the information you have provided me.-----Jim
