Rod bearing change

I may have to change out a bad rod bearing in my '54 Mercury that was recently completely rebuilt. Can this bad bearing be changed from the bottom. I hate the thoughts of having to pull the engine.
Thanks for any comments. Joe

yes they can be replaced with engine in car, raise car, drain oil and put #6 piston at tdc to allow clearance for the pan to come down, renove any thing in the way of the pan, drop steering linkage to allow enough room to remove pan, and if I were you I would go on ebay and buy a motors manual that covers the year of your car, you will need one, the book will tell you exactly how to remove the pan and a lot of other repairs
