Rocky Mountain brakes issue

Hello, everyone. I'm new to this forum. I hoping that I can use this forum to help me gain valuable information, as needed, with regards to my dad's 1923 Model T Depot Hack.

He has actually asked me to try and get some recommendations with a rear brake issue he's having. He has Rocky Mountain brakes and the seals are leaking getting fluid all over the linings and he was wondering if there is anything he can soak them in to draw the oil out, or if he has to replace them.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Chris

You might pull them off and try Brake-Klean(SP?) after he replaces the seals. Does he have the inner seals? Then don't over grease.

That happened to me. Paint thinners and then brake cleaner. Paint thinners works well for woven linings but i'm not sure if it is approved for soaking bonded linings.

What is the "fluid"? If it's bearing grease, it's from using too much. Just clean up the mess (Rockies and the stock brakes inside the drums) and don't overfill the bearings. But more likely it's rear axle oil from leaking inner seals. In that case use a wire hook to pull out the bearings, then a puller to remove the sleeves, and install new neoprene seals.

This shows part of a rear axle overhaul, and includes seal installation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfxWPsF4KhQ

Thank you, everyone, for your input. I'll pass along all this info to him. I appreciate the help!
