Removing Windshield

My windshield caught a big rock on my last trip and I'm trying to remove the windshield in my 28 Tudor for replacement.

Wiper is off. Swing arms are off. Windshield is tilted to the max. Now the problem.

I tried to remove the slotted screws with my cordless drill, in reverse of course. The screws spun but did not back out since the threads in the wood were now gone.

The screws are flush against the metal and I can't get anything underneith the head so I can get ahold of them with pliers or some other tool to remove them. The channel around the screw heads is very narrow.

HELP. Have you had this problem? How did you solve it?

With all the screws spinning in the wood you should be able pull down and remove the windshield. When you reinstall, install it use epoxy. Dip a Q-tip in the epoxy and place it in the screw hole. Cut the end off flush, the center of the q-tip will start the new screw easily.

If it's a '29 model as it appears in your avatar, you're on the wrong track. If I'm remembering correctly you need to remove the header trim panel inside the car. Then you have access to the hex nuts on the top end of the machine screws.

Thanks for the reply Mile. I went right out and started checking things out. A friend came over to help and just before we took out the sledge hammer we checked a little closer. The windshield is out.

Marco wins the cigar for the correct answer but we stumbled upon it before we read his post or did any damage.

Thanks Mike and Marco
