Remove steering Wheel

Open or closed car? The closed cars are more difficult because you have to tilt the steering column down to get the light switch and horn switch rod out. You have to take the rod out before you can take the wheel off. A strong spring and clip are at the bottom. You have to take the light switch off the bottom of the steering box to get to the clip. Disconnect the battery first. To tilt the column down, take the bolts out that attach the steering box to the frame and the clamp up near the top of the column.

After the rod is out you can unscrew the nut that holds the wheel on. Be careful as the hollow column shaft is thin there and easily damaged. You will likely need a puller, available from the usual vendors, to pull the wheel out. Be careful with the puller as it can damage the thin hollow column shaft. Keep the nut on to protect the column shaft, but leave a gap between the nut and wheel. The top of the nut should be flush with the top of the shaft.
