Group,

I'm moving my Model A, and my family, to Minnesota. In Colorado I was able to register the car in it's original condition (no turn signals) and get a nice antique plate.

What's the scoop with Minnesota ? No trouble with lack of turn signals ?
Special Plate Available ?

Marc,
I live in Lakeville, which is two suburbs south of Eagan. Minnesota is a very "old car" friendly state. I don't believe there is any requirement for turn signals, seat belts, air bags, etc. I am quite sure older car are grandfathered and don't have to have the newer safety features. I am sure you will need to purchase a Minnesota license plate. There is a "Pioneer" for antique cars plate that you buy once if that is what you want to do. The cost is not all that much. You can also use your own YOM plates that are either original legable plates or restored YOM plates. In addition, you only have to have one YOM plate if you want to have only one on the rear. I plan to have only one as I don't want to block the radiators air flow. I don't now all the old car rules, but Minnesota is one of the more lenient states for older cars.

Marc,
Rusty is right on with his description for Minnesota licensing. The only thing I would add is, as you would expect, you can't drive to work or use the A as your regular transportation.

Minnesota Nice!

Ted is referring to the limited use of your Model A if you purchase the "Pioneer" plates. You can purchase regular plates and drive it all you want for any purpose.

Group,

I checked the web site and it did have some info, but not all that I need...hence the barn.

If I do register the model a as a "regular" car, does it need turn signals ?

Marc

No, you don't have to have turn signals, but your arm might get pretty cold if you drive in January and need to signal your turn.

Don't know about MN but some states require the second tail light with regular plates.

In MN you're good to go using the car as Ford built it. To use it daily you'll need regular plates and regular insurance.

With nearly 6 months of salt on the roads I'd just park it for the winter.
