Red Distributor Body on Early 28 Model A

Phaeton Man

I own an early 1928 Model A Phaeton with a red steering wheel and
powerhouse generator. It is early production but not AR. Someone
recently told me that if I have a red steering wheel the distributor body
was also red. Is this correct and if so are red distributor bodies available
to purchase anywhere??

Afraid someone is 'pulling your leg'. Ford only used black distributor bodies while common red ones where an era after market offering.

If knowing your Model A is important, consider purchasing a copy of the Judging Standards ('Blue Book'). A rewarding investment.

No, the red distributor bodies were not used at the same time as the red steering wheel. In fact, from what I've seen, they are early aftermarket items. They do show up in a lot of overseas cars...not sure why. I have about a dozen of them in my collection.

The correct distributor body/cap is black for the 1928s.

the red dizzy bodies were from Sears or Woolworth. they sold them at the same counter you could get a hot dog and soda for .15 cents.
