If you want to renew the height and driving characteristics to your '36 as it was designed, it's not as simple as removing a leaf or two.
There is no 'easy' answer to what you are trying to accomplish here as I don't know what 12 leaf spring you have - that is, the true / intended application.
Never is it as simple as removing the top leaf or two. To go from a '36 (12 leaf) to a '36 (10 leaf) you must swap a couple of leafs as well as remove a couple.
Each assembly was made up of differing leafs.
It appears you are attempting to do a half way decent job on your coupe so I might suggest for the minimal cost you purchase a new & correct spring. Carpenter has many as does Southside Obsolete. About $150 / new old stock.

You are probably correct Kube.this spring came from a 46 -48 rear, it was clean and ready .the original spring is still on the old rearend, i guess i should take it off a use it ,looks ok just need to be cleaned up,Don P

You'll find soon enough that the differences in a '46 - '48 spring vs. the '36 are incredible. It would be a bit of a challenge to go from a '36 ten leaf to a '36 (12) leaf.
You won't be happy with the '46 - '48 spring in your '36... trust me on this.
