Rear Cross Member

Not very familiar with "T's" but figured this was the place to come for answers.

Q: Is there a substantive difference in the rear crossmember from '26 & '27 Model T's when compared to earlier Model T crossmembers? Are the rear '26 and '27 spring leaves the same with as earlier spring leaves?

Thanks in advance for any and all info.

Yes, the Improved Ford ('26-'27) rear crossmember is longer and wider. The frame is also differs in the amount and placement of the body mount brackets. Photo shows the Improved Car frame on the left, earlier frame on the right.

The springs are lower in arch too than the '25 and earlier rear spring leafs.

Many thanks. Looks like the whole frame assembly is significantly heavier as well as being larger. I have an opportunity to purchace a repro "T" frame and some other parts but would need a rear crossmember. I located an NOS one that, supposedly, fits '14 thru '25. I presumed there must be a difference since the production lasted 2 years after '25.

Thanks again for your input.

Henry,

There's a ton of difference in the frames. The repro unit is more than likely for a street rod etc.
Kinda depends on your final project, either stock or maybe a flathead equipped hot rod.
The factory t frame is pretty fragile and depends on th model t three point rear mount and the three point mount of the engine allowing the frame to flex and twist. I have three of these cars etc, come on down someday and I will take you for a ride and show you the difference.
I plan on tearing down my white speedster for a redo this summer.....
