Re: GERMAN SMOKE BOX FOR FLATHEAD
I have an English mag called 'Classic & Sports Car', Aug 004. It has an interesting article on wood burners 'Gazogenes', in France. A guy called Bernard Perrouse has a cut down 33 Chrysler, restored & running on wood. His woodcutter is too! After wood, charcoal was the most likely fuel, others were Coal, anthracite, coke, & lignite.
The brands mentioned are; Panhard, Facel, Berliet, there were many others. In 1944 87% of lorries [trucks], relied on Gazogenes, Gazo; for short. Some were towed on a trailer.
The Chizler burns two 55lb bags of wood every 60 miles. 30 lb of wood = aprox 1 gallon of gas with a 15% power loss on the flat & 30% loss on the hills!
Those were the days!
