rounding out this weekend with a fresh coat of preservation magic:D

After watching the BBG video on this last year 1/4 mineral spirits and 3/4 boiled linseed oil, I had applied it and held up well all year.

The new application gives the Fordor some new shine, dull but shows the aged body off real well.

that is an interesting mix of "preservative"

would have guessed matte finish clear coat was the way to go.

Ive used old motor oil on crusty patina cars, but 6 months is about the duration

ps also wondering how the new ceramic finish coatings would last? some have an expectancy of a few yrs.

Lion or Lin oil is the basis for oil paints used for centuries. The only problem is that it takes a long time to dry. It also leaves a lot behind as it slowly deteriorates and yellows with age. Recoating it will get a lot of build up and the stuff is not easy to clean off or remove.

Your formula was my dad's mix for wood finishing, just make sure and use BOILED linseed oil. as the raw oil won't dry well.

On the wooden deck of my trailer I use 1/3 gallon boiled linseed oil, 1/3 gallon diesel, and 1 quart motor oil. I works great there but but I can't think of another place I'd use that mixture. It easily lasts a year.

Watch out for rags that have been used for applying linseed oil. They tend to spontaneously combust after they oxygenate enough.

Perfect Patina! absolutely matches the 'well-used' '27(?) T!

Good tips and replies, definitely boiled linseed and dispose of the used wipers and cloths. The 26 will look good out this Labor day weekend.

That video for this recipe was broke ******* garage August 15 2019

Preserving patina one also needs a ball&socket elbow. or ball in socket elbow.)

I've had really good success with Penetrol. It's mostly linseed oil but it's got some kind of drying agent in it so it doesn't stay sticky.
