Polishing Stainless trim

The 56 Ford I bought has a lot of stainless trim. It's in pretty good shape,
but I'd like to make it better.
Anyone have any experience in polishing this stuff while it's still on the car? I'd rather not remove it, if possible.
Thanks
Jim

The only thing I can recommend is using chrome polish and a butt load of elbow grease! Best results will be with the stuff off the car.

On the car; Mothers and a cotton ball. Of the car; Sears used to sell a spindle to screw on the shaft of any electric motor of 1/2 or so HP. Buy two eight inch cotton buffs and use two at a time on the same spindle. Use the red rouge for stainless, and wear heavy leather gloves to handle the parts. Turn on the radio and pull up a stool, it takes a long time, but the results are well worth the effort.

I've buffed out some localized scratches on some installed trim once. Put some masking tape on each side and then a couple layers of duct tape on top of that. Used a 7" grinder with a spiral buffing wheel on edge and a couple stages of compound. Worked OK; but if you want to whole pieces it would make more sense to remove them and do it right.

Mr clean magic eraser will take all the grime off then I use a buffing compound what ever grit you like to buff with . I usually just use a cloth and a lot of elbow grease.

I think they use a siesel {not spelled right} wheel to polish stainless you can get a cotton wheel at harbor freight and there polishing compounds and do a good job

If you buff the piece off the car be careful, if the buffer is powerful enough you can turn the part into a missile pretty quick. Don't ask me how I know.
