Overheating in parade - Thoughts - Update

As noted in my first post, after boiling over at the parade and running very rough, she smoothed out and ran good all the way home. This alone says a LOT for the great benefit of rolling down the road and forcing more air through the radiator vs. standing still.

Re-filled the radiator. Inspected everything for leaks - none. Took her for a test drive in the 95 degree weather - no problems.

While hot, I did a cylinder compression check per Les Andrews book. The average of all four cylinders was 70 psi (Snyder's 5.5 head) and the max spread between the highest and the lowest cyl. was 4 psi. I guess I don't have a blown head gasket or "significantly-damaged" (if at all) cylinder walls (Thank you Lord!). The ring expansion gaps must be good too! Radiator I.R. thermal mapping was good - as far as I could tell.

I'm gonna buy me a vacuum test gage today and do the test. 'See what happens.

Soooo...My overheating problem had to have been solely due to the tighter engine after the new rods, rings and honing - compared to last year's "loose", well-run-in engine in the same weather conditions.

It's really amazing how much abuse these babies can take and still keep ticking. Thank you Henry...

Is there any expert out there who thinks I may not be off the hook yet? - Results of vacuum test, etc.? What could there be that hasn't showed up in performance by now?

I really got away with nurder (or potential murder) on this one.

Let this be a lesson to me...

Thanks to all again for all your helpful input.

Vacuum test was a rock-solid 19 in. Hg. Les Andrews "pass" range is 18 - 20 in. Hg.

Good!

Other than the extra friction generated by the new tight engine, the only thing that comes to my feeble mind is retarded timing. I would add the point gap adjustment, but you said in your first post that it had electronic ignition.
