Oil Pressure Gauge (accessory)

I'll offer comment on both copper and plastic...
Copper line...mine broke at the fitting going into the block about 2 miles from home after about 12,000 miles. The oil sprayed on the muffler and the smoke/smell alerted me. It was early in my ownership of this car and I did not realize how quickly the oil is pumped out. I was 3.5 qt low in no time. I then replaced the line with plastic.
Couple years later...
Plastic line...I was doing some carb tuning and during the process also replaced the gasline. I then took the car out for a quick test run but forgot to tie off the plastic line...and it melted across the manifold just above the muffler. This time it did not show any evidence of it leaking until I lifted the hood after the drive. I can not recall if I noticed the oil gauge dropping to zero. Estimate I had about 4,000 miles on the plastic line when I melted it.

I replaced the plastic line with a new plastic line but am now vigilant to keep it tied off to the gasline as Spinelll's picture shows in an earlier post. I routed the line through the junction box and through the gas tank passage. I have about 34,000 miles on the current plastic line that is installed. The spare plastic line I have under the seat has been carried 34,000 miles also.

I still prefer plastic.

Jeff, You make a good point. I always look at the gauge at start up to verify oil flow but once it is warm, and after a few hours on the raod, I can't say that I would even notice if it was on zero.
