if your electrical is that bad and your not a purest why not replace the harness to a modern one unless your staying with the original l don't remember if its 6 or 12 volts you could use a hot rod kit I think it has 10 circuts when I did my wagon and 64 ranchero I used a kit like this it had provisions for fuel pump windows locks a/c ect was easier and less time consuming then tracing broken/cut wires just my thoughts
1956 = 12 Volt (first year for 12v)

Thanks for all the advice/suggestions. If I don't think I can restore the harness successfully, I'll certainly look into a replacement.

It truly is a sad story for the family. It seems to occur more and more often these days.
I'm certainly not without fault, but glad I never thought about drugs. Maybe a generation thing. Cars are my HIGH

If the original wiring turns out to be too much of a problem, you could always opt for a new duplicate of factory original harness sold by many of the Ford resto parts suppliers. I found it to be surprisingly easy to just rip out the old junk and install the new wiring. No need to modify any terminals. best to have a '55 Ford shop manual so you can mate the color coded wiring to the proper terminals when installing. I have done two '55 Fords this way and the wiring is flawless. DO NOT BUY one of those foreign made harnesses. Every wire in those has a bad splice connection.

Hiya Jim,
As I recall that car has the thunderbird emblem on the front fender. In 56 I am thinking that means 312. It could have been added but it might be worth checking out. Perhaps someone else can chime in here with more knowledge and expertise. Rowen

Thunderbird emblem doesn't designate a 312. My 56 Victoria has the same emblems and is a 292. I am definitely not an expert but from what I have read from others on here, it is difficult to distinguish a 292 from a 312 without pulling it apart. Not a huge difference anyway...nice car you have there!
