Cat Man,
Vapor lock can be caused by running winter gasoline in summer. The winter gasoline has a higher percentage of volatile components so that cars will start when it is cold out. Some people on the Barn have reported that a small percentage of Diesel or MMO will help.
Other things that can cause a car to run bad when it is hot is a marginal coil or a marginal condensor. When the condensor goes bad it will cause the point to burn and cooling off the car will not fix the problem. Happened to me a few days ago.
The condensor can be measured to assure it is OK. One test is to see if it is shorted or open. A normal condensor will show resistance when the multimeter is first applied and then go open as it charges. The 1K ohm setting on the multimeter works best. If the leads are reversed it will again show some resistance and go to open as it charges in the reverse direction. The leads can be reversed as many times as needed.
