Guys-

Need a door handle location measurement. As many of you know in mid '35 Ford moved the door handle from the front of the door to the center, a much better location. I am "toying" about do a relocation to my early '35. To do that I need some help from somebody that has a late '35 or '36. Specifically, I need a measurement of the handle distance from the door edge and another from the window edge down to the handle. A picture would also help greatly. Thanks.

Tom

Hi Tom, I have '35 tudor & fordor late sedans that I could take measurements on for you. I think the front door on the fordor would be similar enough to your 5W door to use my measurements. What do you think? Let me know and I will do some pictures and measurements for you.

John-

According to to the parts book the same door latch and arm assembly is use for the four door and the 5 window coupe. So the placement measurements must be the same. If you can help I sure would appreciate it.

Thanks

Tom

The vertical center line of the handle pivot point is exactly 16" from both front and back edges of door. Due to some parallax error when taking these pictures it my not look like it's exactly 16" based on what you see of the tape measure in the pictures but it is dead center @ 16".
The horizontal center line is ~ 3-1/4" down from the window garnish molding and ~ 28-1/4" up from the bottom of the door/door panel.

Here are some pictures. Let me know if you need any other pictures or measurements.

TOM, If you would like to get a good look I still don't have door panels on mine. You are welcome to take a look. I have mine located in the center. I also have extra reg like you have. Good luck.

Unless, I was having problems with my current setup, I would not change it to something that is incorrect.
You have something that is different from most '35s, and you can have fun, by telling folks that this only came on the early '35 models.

Hi Mike-

I admit it is an "odd" arrangement. To make it even more odd, the car was built in May-June of 1935. Which means it isn't an early model! However, for day-to-day use it is cumbersome and since I am replacing the door upholstery I figure it might be a good time to make the handle swap. It is not a done-deal. I need to look over the door metal structure. I may find it is not possible without going into a lot of metal surgery which I won't do.
