Model A Chassis and Parts value?

not Trolls, just a newbie who is not up to speed on what things are worth.

there are 2 ways to learn: (1)buy the stuff and find out later you got hosed, or the preferred method (2) listen to good advice from those of us who already tried method (1) sometime in the past. :p

The idiot who installed the engine tag thinks it's an 8 cylinder.
Does anybody seriously think the tag belongs there? Do the math.
This entire thread is a complete and utter waste of time and bandwidth and should be deleted.:mad:

I'm beginning to suspect Fordbarn has been invaded by Trolls.

We are not near as smart as you. I am here to learn about the hobby and you probably could learn a few things yourself. Comments like yours make people feel like they should not post a question because it might be stupid. Would you appreciate your response if somebody gave it to your daughter, son, father or mother. You can respond to a post with negative comments which are appreciated, but do not use the pulley system. Pull yourself up by putting the other guy down. That is my opinion. I have noticed some of the biggest critics at car shows are people that have never built a thing .

With all due respect I feel my comment may have been missunderstood.
You see I TOO come here to learn, and thoroughly enjoy this forum and everybody involved. I try to add only what I feel sure of & most of the time just listen & learn.
I don't want to come off as a know-it-all, and hope I'm not perceived as such.
You may notice on THIS thread I posted a general estimate of the worth of these goods (to the best of my knowledge) and I would continue to help ANY newbe.

My interest in this discussion stopped at the motor TAG
... which we weren't shown in the first pictures.
This TAG is where the whole deal turns bogus in my eyes, and...well...I just can't see how anybody could possibly take the engine seriously or ever consider it legit when the tag is so obviously glued on from another engine.
Ironically, here I am thinking the current parts owner is a fool to think anybody would buy the tag trick....yet maybe he's tapped into a fresh market and I'm the fool?
Whatever the case, I wish the best for this prospective buyer and sincerely hopes he heeds the general advice of this forum and sits on his wallet a little longer.
Say what you will, but no amount of lipstick is gonna make that motor legit and quite frankly it frightens me that anyone would think otherwise.

I went back and read you posts about the Jeep engine. I thought you already had a model "A". I would get a car first before buying parts. Use the three thousand bucks towards the purchase of the car. The car you buy may not need an engine rebuild and you probably will never use the stuff in the $3000.00 pile.

Try to find a car with a good body and frame. The body work seems to be expensive. The mechanical stuff is usually fun and easy to do yourself.

Sturgis is right, find an operating car first. My first purchase was a pile of parts very similar to what you are looking at and nothing ever got put together. Then I bought a complete running car and started to learn and fix and drive, and then realized that I never wanted to do a ground-up restoration.

Thanks for the replies guys. I passed on the parts (as it is obvious that they are not worth that at all). I guess I was a little too trusting with what I was told (them being worth $5K...).

I am looking for one to start with, but I am going to try to sell my Jeep first so I have some room to store it until the summer. I am glad I passed on the whole lot. The engine (yes weird) was one of the parts that I didn't feel comfortable with. That and the piles of random stuff thrown into boxes...

Thanks for helping a newbie out. I am sorry that this thread might be a waste of bandwidth, but it saved me $3000...so I appreciate it.:);)

Glad for you that you passed on the parts. The statement that there worth 5K would have sent up a red flag for me right off the bat. Sounds like a sales pitch. As far as a waste of bandwith, not so. You'll find most of the barners are glad to help.

buy the most complete and driveable car you can afford, it will cost less in the long run and you will have more fun sooner!

save the "basket case project acquisition" for later (or never)........

Like so many mentioned above, it looked like just a pile of parts. Some orginal, some ??? and the tag on the motor that had the green paint on the tag was a deal killer.

Seems like the other advise given that you should get something that is complete first is very good advise. A stack of parts is just a pile of junk. Think about what you want to do and then go after it-don't take someone's failure to put it all together and try to make something out of it.

I think what the pile of parts is from is the roadster the guy bought before trying to sell these online. They are extras that came with the roadster (he paid $7.5K for it!!!) and tried to sell these to me for $3K... It feels like he was trying to take me for a ride. The chassis I wanted he sold for $1.2K, which would have been a good deal as it was complete and running...

Either way, I will wait until something better and more complete shows up, and something that is not questionable.

Thanks everyone!
