metal to metal?

I'm detailing a Model A town sedan for a friend. It has fairly thick, ugly rubber pads under the headlight bar, the hood hooks, and the tailight stands. Were these areas metal to metal or was there a paper gasket used similar to the ones under the door handles?

I believe it was metal to metal contact under headlight bar, hood hooks and taillight bracket to fender.
