Magneto doesn't work, what's the deal?

Watch ebay, if you are in no big hurry rebuilt single stack come up every so often for around $200 plus shipping, no core needed.

Check with a compass, if both poles are the same the needle should be fairly steady, if they are not it would be osculating.
One way to do the recharge is to lay the coil ring in direct contact with the magnets (shown in the MTFCA book), using the orientation shown above. From what the book says, you can change the polarity of the magnets if you have the wrong poles lined up, they will not be as strong. That I take to mean, the NN can become SS, I do not think it means a NS can become a NN.

A party in PA just bought my 1917, and expects car to be ready in 4 weeks or so. Time is not on my side now. I'll probably just pop for the rebuilt unit advertised in Mac's for $224 plus core. Likely grab some new magnets, new screws, new magnet clamps and pedestals, bullet proof the thing and call it a day.

Trying to get 90 year old components to cooperate with me is like herding cats. Doable, but I gotta move on.
