Is this like many other MAFCA purchases where a charge for using a credit card is assessed?

Mail them a paper check via snail mail (80 cents) and avoid the credit card processing fee of $1.95. You are ahead a little more than a dollar.

MAFCA's credit card processing fees charged to them was over $30,000 last year. The banks are taking advantage of their monopoly position and keep raising the fees.

MAFCA can process a paper check for "almost free". It's the only option that we, as consumers and businesses, can use to push back on the excessive fees from the banks.
.

Since 99% of their business is online they should just adjust their prices to include the transaction fee rather than getting everyone chipping their teeth about having to pay the fee.
They could negotiate for a better deal - business swipe fees typically cost merchants 1.5% to 3.5% per transaction. Or is .4 to 2.4% and additional revenue stream for them?
BTW - I bought my new Judging Standards from MARC without a transaction fee (and no CA sales tax) - just saying......

Others' experiences may vary, but my bank has online bill pay check-writing where you put in all the info on their website and they send the check for you, no stamp required. Then you're ahead two dollars.

Canadian banks have what they call etransfer where you can send money from your bank account to any email address-no fee. Don't think it works unless the reipient has a Canadian bank account. Recipient can set up auto deposit or do it individually-again no charge. Works great and use it all the time.

US banks also will provide direct payment electronically at no charge. I use Epay to pay all our bills which are electronically payed directly from my checking account. MAFCA should offer this as another option for payment.

MAFCA doesn't give much for options in this respect. I hate using credit sources for ordering anything anymore. I prefer direct bank payment if at all possible. Many take PayPal direct but not all do.

I send a check. Eighty cents door-to-door. Quite a bargain when you think about it.

I do the same. And when I renew, I pay for 2 years. That cuts the postage cost per year in half, and cuts down on the number of times I have to remember to send them a check. :D

What's the deal with MAFCA sending renewal notices in August? Are they getting short of funds?
By the time we in Canada pay a $10 premium(covers mailing), credit card fees at source, foreign transaction fees, 40% exchange it gets up close to $100. Paying by cheque saves a little.

The clubs generally run their magazine issues bi-monthly so they want to give notice early enough so they can guarantee the member doesn't miss an issue. They likely don't want to keep and stockpile a lot of back issues so they tend to only make enough for the current members and they plan their issues well before hand but they don't always get the printed issues back early. That stuff can make a difference depending on who they choose to print the issues.

I missed an issue from the EFV8 some years ago because I waited till the month it was due. I usually pay at the beginning of the month before it's due just to make sure I don't miss any issues.

Yeah, but the day that your check gets stolen out of the mail (which happens quite frequently here in the D.C. area) and then your bank account gets emptied, that small credit card fee will look like a bargain.....just saying.

Plus, when paying with your credit card, you will also get hotel points, airline points, cash-back, or whatever rewards program you are part of......and those points/cash-back add up over time and often offset the small payment fee.

MAFCA usually adds a small fee for card payments. It's annoying but standard. If you can mail a check, do it. Saves the fee and they get the full amount. Either way, renewing is worth it. Good club

Brad…
Happens often in the southeast also. Recently in Knoxville TN….it was internal theft in the PO.
Thieves know which contain payments. Ain’t it grand?!!

Cash is king ! Take a drive pay in person , 2 day drive there 3 days back , 3 nights in a motel , 100 gallons of gas , eating fast foods for 5 day ……….PRICELESS

All said and done, I really don't mind paying that very small fee. Been doing it when paying club fees for the Dodge Brothers club for a while now.

I really can't believe some are making this much fuss over less than Two Dollars. Just because you drive a car from the 1930s doesn't mean you have to relate things in 1930s prices.
Here's a glance from today's prices from a few local fast food shops.
McDonald's Small French fries $2.59
Basic Chik Fil-A chicken sandwich $4.59
Jack in the Box Small Sprite (if you can't have caffeine after 5) $1.99
Whataburger Hot Coffee (if you Dr let's you have caffeine) $2.39
All these are plus tax of course.
Don't you feel better now?
This is my attempt to add levity to the situation.
