Locking doors on 1934 Fords

If I shut the doors on my 1934 Ford pickup with the handle in any position besides facing up, the door will lock and I have to remove the floor to get back in the vehicle. Anyone run across a solution to this? Thanks, Bill

I assume your talking about the inside door handle??? I don't think the inside door handle should be facing upward??? how about posting a photo of the handle and latch Mech. from the interior. There is usually a spring that has to be overcome with light pressure to go into lock and the spring holds the handle in the lock position. Possible the spring on your latch is broken, but they are available and replaceable.

Yes, the inside door handle. Both doors will lock if the handle is not pointing upwards. There is a key to unlock the passenger door, but that is on a separate locking system. Wish I could find a place to go to get info on the locking system. Bill4704

Remove the handles on both doors and remove the remote mechanism and the latch. You need to inspect them for missing or broken springs. There is a spring in the latch and one in the remote mechanism.

Here are pics of the latch and remote. Quite a job to remove the latch assy. The window and its channel will have to come out.

Here is an old thread on this subject but its for a 5W coupe door.PU doors inner panel are different,no large opening. The PU doors have a removable triangular plate on the panel for access to the window regulator arms.At the top of the door is a removable panel for the window to come out.

Notice in the photo directly above and on the left, the spring on the operating handle attachment is the spring mentioned above in post #2.
