From Craigslist. Technique is known as "Fishing for the Big One."

"I have a 36 ford 5 window coupe for sale, It is the original black with the flathead v8 and 3 speed transmission. Have original paperwork from car in 1936. All original. 6volt system. Metal spare tire cover. Has been sitting for the last few years covered in my barn since my father has passed away. Engine not locked up. paint is in excelent condition for being original, dent in rear right fender above tire. Cloth top. Interior and cloth top need replaced as they are original. Have many blue ribbon trophies for car. My father used to drive car around all the time. minimal ammount of rust, very very little rust on body. doors open and close perfect. i believe the brakes are not working up to par, but the brake shoes are very recent. new set of original sized tires put on before father passed. I have had many offers for this car. No pictures at the moment, have not gotten around to loading them. No low balls. Possible trades would be cash, ext. cab/ 4 door diesel truck, motorcycle. Nothing worthless. let me know what you might have to sweeten the deal. I know what this car is worth and how rare it really is. The last offer i recieved i laughed at and walked away. I absolutely do not have to part with this car at all. Seeing if there is anyone interested. This picture is not the car, but very similar."

Prolly knows where the car is, and will go steal it after he finds someone to make a deal with. I know a guy that saw his own car on Craigslist one day. Come to find out some kid that was in town for work saw it and snapped a pic of it hoping to do a deal on it than skip town like the wind. Sounds a little fishy to me

Should read... "I may or may not have some type of car for sale. I just enjoy wasting other people's time, as well as my own. I also may or may not have a nice bridge for sale in the state of NY."

wtf...

It is really amazing how many people you run across that are trying to sell something and you sit back and wonder if they honestly want to sell it or if they are just lonely and enjoy the attention.

"I definitely may or may not be interested, and it's uncertain whether or not I will make make an offer. My father once had a car similar to yours, but it was a different make, and he didn't like it, so I probably wouldn't like yours either. But then again, I might change my mind, so don't take any offers until you hear from me. I can tell the value of any car with or without pictures, and am not about to pay more than bottom dollar."

Sounds like this guy will have Dad's car for a LooooooooONG time !

(saying to wife while watching Barret Jackson,..."Hey That looks just like Dad's car,..... But this one says it's a "Duesenberg",..... huh ?,... never herd of that before,.... so it must not be a popular as a Ford,.... Dad's car should be worth at least twice what this thing brings !) :D

Did you guys hear about the guy who owned a Model A,saw:) one stalled one day and stopped to help, got the guy going again.Turns out the Model A he helped get running was stolen! James

I've found Craigslist to be a good resource both buying and selling, but you do have to sift through a lot of chaff.

Recently ran an ad looking for a Model A coupe, anything from a body shell on up. Got a reply from a gal something like "I've got a '29 T bucket my husband built." I gently replied something like, "Thanks, but I'm not looking for a Model T. By the way, Ford didn't make Model Ts after 1927." Got an indignant reply back "I didn't say it was a Model T, I said it was a T bucket!!!". Oh well.......

Craigslist is hopeless around here. The scrap men have taken it over. You see 10-15 we pay the most, etc for every other ad.The kicker is that the rules of listing on craigslist state No Business Ads.
Last time I checked buying to resell was a business.I must be the only one who flags them because they clog up the whole site.
And if I post an ad wanting to buy engine or a part,WHAM,the scrappers flag me right off.One of them sent me an email the other day saying they were taking over the site. And they have did it too.
I have never seen such greed in all my life.I wish scrap prices would drop to nothing and stay there.

This reminds me of one time when a buddy of mine played a prank on another mutual friend. He put an ad in the back of some dog breeding magazine for a stud service. It was for some rare and expensive breed. at the end of the ad he listed our friends phone number and email. This guy was flooded with calls and emails and he had no idea where it was coming from or how to stop it! haha I have to admit It was kinda funny. (no it wasn't me)

That's PERFECT!!

locally a guy wanted to harass his neighbor due to barking dogs. He also posted an ad in his neighbors name on one of the lists and his neighbor got many calls. The police also got a call from the neighbor and now the guy who posted the ad is facing charges.
