My buddy has a 36 roadster that has a bad transmission oil leak at the rear of the transmission. He used the best rear mount out of alot of trannies, butafter 4 years is now leaking pretty bad. Is there an aftermarket rear transmission mount and seal that anybody can recommend for him? I have to rebuild my 35 transmission soon so I'm keen to know the best option as well, thanks Dan.

Go to Mac's or any other supply house who handles trans parts and buy a rear bearing with a seal. while you have the trans apart replace any thing worn Gordon

Does he have the disc that goes between the rubber and the trans case? I've seen a few that did not... If it's there, I would disassemble the mount, clean and reassemble using silicone--having looked for cracks in the case... Karl

Karl, I don't know, the transmission is still in the car, but I will tell him . I have also looked up new rear transmission mounts with new rubber moulded into place so he can order 1 of them as well.

The 2 shaft ends that you can see on the rear of the transmission are just in the bare case and almost all leak. These shafts can be machined and "O" rings installed, sealant on them may help because they don't rotate being held by a pin through both. I cleaned the ends and the case around them with solvent and put silicon sealant over them. I also use molly grease in with the gear oil which thickens the oil slowing the leaking and quiets the gear noise. I put about 1 tube in and the gears will mix it like a blender. I drive in warm weather and also use the same mixture in the rears including 6 Columbia's and they shift nice. G.M.
