Inexpensive Coupe on BaT

I finally got time to work on the car. Carb in nice shape, but carb plugged with tank rust. Cleaned it out. Replaced really sour gas in tank. Tank definitely has lots of rust scale. Spliced a fuel filter in fuel line. I think I will replace coolant. Looks light on antifreeze. Reassembled ignition, reset timing. Car is still 6 volt, but negative ground. Got engine running. Lights and generator working. Seems to me very weak turning over of motor with starter. I don't know if battery ground goes to frame or motor, or both. Still need to verify/install both. Haven't driven it yet, no time. Got title transferred. Probably get insurance this week. Ultimately will convert to 12v with electronic ignition. Car does seem to be very nice. Clearly had a full restoration. I haven't found any rust. I haven't checked if wiring to coil is correct. Engine runs good with occasional miss. Still need to bore scope to see if rebuilt, but looked pretty clean looking down plug hole. Interior had major moth infestation. Set off three separate house bug bombs inside interior over a two month period. Think I got them all.

Good work. Congratulations. I am a fan of the stock ignition system, having used them for over 60 years. But I do use modern points and condensor. Measure the voltage at the starter switch terminal when cranking the engine over with the ignition off. That will tell you a lot about the health of the ground, connections, and starter.

I think you did well and bet it is easy to get started. regarding the upholstery, live with it for 6 months and get to know the car first.
