how to remove trunk latch for a coupe?

I have a 1929 ford coupe that I am building. I am wanting to remove the trunk handle and latch from the trunk lid. IM wanting to re use the latch handle because it is the T style handle and is in good shape from the appearance, and my other door handles work fine and I want them all to match. the trunk latch handle will not turn left or right and the key I have will not work for it. the trunk lid does open and close. Ive sprayed it will pb blaster and took the acorn nut off the bottom of the handle that goes thru the latch from the inside and the handle wont pull thru. Is there something im missing or any advice would be very appresiative. Also can I buy a new lock mechanism for the handle if I can get it out?

thanks
Billy

The handle and shaft should come out once you removed the nut and washer, perhaps its rusted in place. Keep hitting hit with the blaster, put the nut back on and "tap" it gently. Sometimes a little heat will help. Once the shaft is out the lock can be removed by taking the mounting screws out, then you can rebuild it to work better.

You might try getting a plastic bucket large enough to hold the handle and mix up some acetone and automatic transmission fluid (50-50?) and let it soak for a few days. Nothing to lose.
