How do I repair firewall insulator pad

There is a hole about the size of your heel where a foot must of slip off the clutch into the pad. The rest of the pad is not too bad so I would like to repair hole. Anyone have any ideas. I would think others have had this happen, thanks.
 
Why not just use body filler? If the hole is all the way thru to the firewall, you should probably use some tape or penetrating oil on the firewall metal to keep the filler from sticking, but then just mix some filler and apply to the area. The filler will make a decent insulator. Use some sandpaper and a stiff brush to texture the finish of the filler, and then paint to blend it to the finish of the insulator.
 
What kind of pad do you have? Is it the kind that is bought online for generic automotive insulation or the dedicated insulator bought from one of the suppliers?
