Holley 94 Rebuild - Something Strange

Haha! Thanks. I think I will be able salvage a second one. Still need lots of new parts, but 2 out of three isn't bad. Plan is one day to add a dual carb intake, preferably the Eddie Meyer one.

So, here I’m 4 years later working on rebuilding a second carb for an Edmunds dual carb intake I picked up at Hershey back in Oct. Once again, got all my parts from
Charlie at Vintage Speed. Doing a search brought me to this old thread of mine. lol!

Good thing I found this thread. One of the carb bodies had the same issue with a stuck needle valve. Had forgotten about this issue, but noticed a shiny surface earlier today in that same pocket. Had another carb body that I’m using, and the needle valve just fell out. Not so lucky with the body I want to use. Letting the body soak in some vinegar to see if that will loosen it.

I'm rebuilding a 94 too. Mine is stamped ford from an 8rt originally. Still trying to free up that little ball in the accelerator pump. Any tips on removal?

May try some denatured alcohol or acetone to dissolve the gunk. A submersion in a closed container of acetone for a day or two does wonders for cleaning out passages. Then hold the body upside done and squarely rap it against a firm, flat surface. Has worked for me many times.

the accelerator pump mechanism on my 94 has a small spring clip down in the bottom of the well. it keeps the ball in place. it's not easy to see, get in or get out, but it's there. it looks like about a half of a full turn of a thin spring. it's a crazy arrangement, for sure. i'm not even sure of its purpose, other than to possibly keep the ball from falling out by accident. IOW, IDK. :)

not to be confused with the spring or the "spring retainer" on the pump itself, but one COULD call it a "small ball bearing retainer spring".

i think i found one on ebay...

Yep. The vinegar helped clear out some of gunk so I could actually see the spring clip and the ball. Used a pick to pry out the spring/clip, then gave the body a few taps on my workbench, and the ball fell out.
Noticed after bead blasting the body, a plug must have fallen out. Anyone know how to plug this? Doubt I’ll ever find what was in there unless I filter out all the media in my blast cabinet.

I was reading a long not aware this an older thread. Was reading a Charley/NY post, thought, hey, he's back. We all miss Charley

I will likely start a new thread as I rebuild the carb as the “secondary” carb for my 2 x 2 Edmunds intake. I plan on using progressive linkage which seems to be counter to most folks opinion. Lol!

You plan on using the front carb as the primary, right? I always thought that would work on those extreme rear biased dual manifolds, but I'll never get around to testing it on my own because I am too far down the 2GC/Canadian Merc manifold and "Super" dual paths.

I, for one, will be very interested on how it works out. See what you can do do keep me in the loop.

As far as "Charlie NY" is concerned, his presence would be another great resource here. I would contact him on what power valves to use; I would start with a stock PV in the primary, and a plug in the secondary.

Yep. Rear biased as I’m keeping the stk generator in the stk location. Got my parts from Vintage Speed. I think he recommended at 5.5 PV for forward carb, and plugged PV for rear carb.
